Portrait d’un souverain moghol fumant le hookah
Inde du Nord, Art moghol, fin XVIIIe - début du XIXe siècle
Page d'album, encre, gouache et or sur papier, double face (peinture et calligraphie), à larges marges bleu profond ornées de rinceaux fleuris dessinés à l'or. Un souverain vêtu d’un jama fleuri rehaussé d'or et coiffé d’un turban orné de perles, fume le hookah, assis les jambes croisées sur un tapis, dans un pavillon à l’architecture blanche. À ses côtés, un serviteur tient un chauri (éventail à manche), symbole de pouvoir impérial.
Au verso figure un quatrain persan calligraphié en nasta‘līq, accompagné d’un

ای انکه ترا بر همه فرمان باشد
حکم تو روان بر سر و بر جان باشد
خواهم ز خدا عبد تو هر روز ولی
عبدی که در و حصم تو قربان باشد
