Album with c. 460 military sketches from campaigns in the East. Oblong 4to; 61 ff. with c. 460 drawings: black, brown and purple ink, pencil, black chalk, watercolour, various dimensions, wove paper, few monogrammed, signed, dated, identified, located and numb. (few sm. tears (few with sm. losses), some stains, spots, browning, wavy drawings and soiling, traces of glue and visible through drawing). - Large ensemble by the French artist Camille-Narcisse Chauveau mostly realised during the campains in Algeria and Crimea, where the artist was accredited by the armed forces to document the events (according to a ms. notice by the painter's grandson (Henri Chauveau) pasted onto the inside cover). Orientalist scenes, figure studies (women, horses, men, French and Eastern soldiers, etc. ), battle and camp scenes (incl. also Franco-Prussian War), landscapes, views of Eastern cities (but also Boulogne-sur-mer, bridge in Switzerland), religious drawings after Domenichino, etc. - Joined: Award silver medal presented to Camille Chauveau (1st medal) at an exhibition of paintings of Boulogne-sur-Mer in 1862. Portrait of Napoleon III on the obverse and signed P. Chabaud. 5,6 cm diam. Orig. case. (2 pcs)
