Description
LAMPERIERE (XIXth century). "Valmy", gouache and wash on paper, titled upper right, signed lower right (size 44x59 cm).
The Valmy was a 120-gun, three-decker ship commissioned by the Paris Commission in 1824 and launched in 1847. It was designed by the engineer and Inspector General of the Navy Paul-Marie Leroux (1786-1853), grandson of the French naval architect Jacques-Noël Sané, to whom the fleet owes most of its vessels then in service.
