France - CARABINIER'S HELMET AND LEATHERCOAT MODEL 1856. Helmet. Brass bomb, stamped 317, made by Delachaussée. Crest with gadroons, brushed in red horsehair, chinstrap with interlaced rings mounted on leather, metal snap ring. Pomegranate headband. Leather inner headpiece (worn and missing). Shield and visor straps. Worn, otherwise good condition. Polished steel breastplate, blackened on the inside, covered with brass leaf, and bearing in its centre an eagle glory on a radiant background. Brass shoulder straps on leather. Original leather shoulder straps, leather straps and ties (leather restoration reinforcements to rear). Belt replaced. Corroded cuirass having been repolished, markings illegible, otherwise good condition. A coloured engraving is included.
