Description
INTERESTING AMERICAN WATCH by ANSONIA, circa 1890-1900, painted and varnished card dial, signed, with two blued steel hands, second hand at 6 o'clock. Crown winding button under the bezel. Movement in a nickel silver case with double back, one screwed, flat glass (probably replaced).
Diameter: 54.8 mm
To be overhauled, worn and missing.
ANSONIA was an important producer of clocks, marking the beginning of the industrialisation of watchmaking (to the detriment of quality), through the maximum reduction of parts making up the mechanism, poor materials, cardboard dial, chromed metal. These watches are quite rare because they were too expensive to repair.
