Description
[MONTFAUCON (Bernard de). Thrésor des antiquitez de la couronne de France représentées en figures d'après leurs originaux. 2 vol. in-folio. The Hague, Pierre de Hondt, 1745. Full contemporary painted calf, gilt roulette framing the covers, spine ribbed and decorated, green morocco title-pieces, edges gilt on marbling.
Title page in red and black.
Important iconographic collection devoted to the history of France, containing 305 engraved plates, often folding, sometimes double-page, which had been used to illustrate Montfaucon's Monumens de la monarchie françoise (Paris, 1729-1733, 5 vol. in-fol.).
Volume I: With the equestrian portrait of Louis XV as frontispiece, 155 plates numbered 1 to 154 and one plate 68 bis.
Volume II: plates 155 to 304. 2 plates 251 (two plates numbered 240 and 254 but no plates 239 and 253).
Later arms in a spine box, with the motto "Faxmentis Honestæ Gloria": Agnew. Bar of Lochnaw, with his engraved bookplate pasted on the flyleaves.
