Description
Beret badge 1st BFMC Chaumachert. Beret badge of the 1er Bataillon de Fusiliers Commandos Marin bearing the number 311 and having belonged to the commando Gabriel Chaumachert who wore it during his operations in Holland. Made of brass with high quality stamping, the back has no markings as it should, apart from the allocation number. Attached is the later-made green beret worn by Gabriel Chaumachert during his ceremonies. Several photos on the internet show the former commando wearing this same beret, as well as a photo print. Gabriel Chaumachert was born in 1922 in Magnet in the Allier department. He joined the Free French in 1942 under the service number 10342FN42, and was then incorporated into the 1st BFMC from November 1944 until November 1945. He took part in the Netherlands campaign and ended up as a petty officer second class. After the war, Chaumachert worked at the Vichy waterworks and in various winter sports resorts.
