Charles MICHELEZ (1817-1894) after Victor HUGO (1802-1885), "Les vieilles villes normandes", photographic albumen print, mounted on strong paper, from a wash drawing by Victor Hugo executed for the work "Les Travailleurs de la mer", stamped under the print with the words "Michelez, Paris, 84 rue d'Assas", size of print: 20 x 12.5 cm, sheet size: 45 x 31.5 cm. Some foxing to the stiff paper.
From the same series, "Voiliers en mer" (Sailing ships at sea), albumen print, 7 x 12.5 cm. Some fading.
N.B.: After spending 15 years in exile, Victor Hugo paid tribute to Guernsey with Les travailleurs de la mer, for which he executed ink wash drawings, photographed by Michelez after the poet's return to Paris.
