BURGUNDY,
Great equestrian seal of Philip the Bold (1342-1404), circular, it shows the son of John the Good in armour on horseback galloping to the right, his shield, his pourpoint and the horse cover with the quartered arms of ancient and modern Burgundy, behind him three shields with the arms of Comté, Artois and Flanders, in front of his horse a fourth shield with the arms of Rethel, the diamond background repeats these arms, he is girded with his abbreviated title meaning "Sigillum Philippi, filii regis Francie, ducis Burgondie, comitis Flandrie, Artesii et Burgondie palatini, domini de Salinis, comitis Registestensis et domini Masclie", counter-seal with the arms of Burgundy surmounted by a fleurdelys helmet, accosted by the four shields of Flanders, County, Artois and Rethel, and the initials PM, Philippe and Marguerite de Flandre, green wax, remains of green and red silk lakes, small lateral chips without damaging the impression.
Seal used from 1387 to 1395.
