The Furry Venus. A novel about flogging. Translated by Ledos de Beaufort. Frontispiece after Bakalowicz. In-8° (some very faint foxing). - Rare first edition of the translation (orig. in German: 1870) of this masochistic masterpiece. Illustrated with a heliogravure frontispiece and numerous in-texts attributed in whole or in part to Martin Van Maele; text framed with an ornate Art Nouveau red fillet. Edition of 500 numbered copies on hollande (no. 179). Contains a bio-bibliography by the translator. - Ex-libris eroticis. - Joint, same format and similar binding signed by the same craftsman but in green: Mirbeau, Octave - Le jardin des supplices [...] . Illustrated by de Pidoll. Paris, G. & A. Mornay, 1923. Edition of 1099 copies, one of 928 on Rives (n° 645). Enriched with the free suite of 10 heightened, unsigned etchings attributed to Henry Chapront (Paris, Éd. de la Bacchante, [c. 1930]) printed in an edition of 165 copies, one of 140 on Arches laid paper (no. 39).
