Edition containing sixty-five unpublished letters and the exact text of the letter from Italy, published with an introduction and notes by Helpey [...]. Accompanied by a study [...] by Sylvestre Bo... Gr. in-8°. - Largely unissued first critical edition (orig.: 1890) of the famous letters sent to Mme Sabatier during a trip to Italy in 1850. With a long introduction by Helpey alias Louis Perceau and an important study by Pierre Dufay under the pseudonym of S. Bonnard. Ill. with 3 photographic reproductions (portrait-frontisp. by Gautier and 2 portraits of Mme Sabatier) and 12 very free etchings by Luc Lafnet under his pseudonym Viset. Edition of 465 numbered copies, this one on Rives vellum marked "H.C." with a second suite of etchings printed in sanguine, very rare, included only with the first copies (cf. typed note mounted in fine). - Ref.
