Description
Manifesto of Surrealism. Poisson soluble. In-12. - First edition. Ex. of the unnumbered edition, the large papers having been limited to 19 ex. This first manifesto of the Surrealist movement was initially intended to serve as a preface to the more or less automatic prose of "Poisson soluble". "Even if it should be considered as the authentic birth certificate of Surrealism, it is far from being a programmatic speech giving precise perspectives. "Let go of everything... take to the roads! That was my exhortation at the time", Breton would say. Following the liquidation of Aristophil, the company that acquired it in 2008, the manuscript of the 'Manifesto' was put up for public sale in 2017 but, having been classified as a national treasure, it was withdrawn from the sale by the French government. - Ref. Biro and others, Dict. général du surr, p. 260. - In French in the text 354. - Prov. aut. s. from Breton to a person whose name has been cut off.
