Miserable miracle (La Mescaline). With 48 engravings by the author. In-8°. - First edition illustrated with "mescaline" writings and drawings by Michaux under the influence of the drug. Ex. of the ordinary edition on Roto blanc Aussédat (n° 180). - Ref. Imbert 50. - Improbable binding with sequins and reliefs by Kulche (° 1927), book artist and painter, "researcher in the dressing of books". - Exhibitions : - A ms. note from Marianne Delvaulx, Oct. 2006, on loose paper, states that the ex. was given to Kulche in 1988 and placed by him in 2 successive bindings exhibited "at bookbinding conventions" as evidenced by the descriptions of the 1st "state" in exhibition catalogues devoted to the artist (Brux., Bibl. Wittockiana, 1995, p. 168, no. 43: "white stained cowhide. On each plate six squares in shades of blue, red, green and yellow. Smooth spine, long title", mentioned from the collection of M.D.) and of the 2nd "state" (Bibliothèque historique de la ville de Paris, 2006, p. 46, no. 186: "very special binding in parachute cloth. The two boards and the spine are painted in relief with a fluorescent paint that becomes very hard. The flaps are covered with the same paint in relief, which gives this binding a very new character"). "This slipcase was decorated with the multicoloured paints used to write on windows and shop windows at Christmas. He produced two other bindings in this 'style' in 2006 for the Blaizot bookshop in Faubourg St-Honoré in Paris," explains Marianne Delvaulx.
