Description
Le chemin royal de la Croix [...]. Translated from Latin into French, & dedicated to madame the duchess of Orleans, by the R.P. Didac, religious of the observance of S. François her confessor. Enriched with forty intaglio figures. Pet. in-8°: [22 (incl. front.)]-564-[6] pp. (some spotting and light russeting on 1st and last pages, marg. spotting on some pages). - Reprint of the 1651 edition with the same illustrations, including 1 frontispiece and 39 in-text full-page copper engravings, sometimes signed Ganière, and numerous woodcuts. The Latin original (Regia via crucis) was published in Antwerp in 1635. - Ref. Landwehr, Romanic, 363. - Prov. de Gayffier family, Gévaudan branch (super ex-libris). This coat of arms is probably a modern copy of an old coat of arms, like the one with the Gayffier arms quartered, reproduced in Olvier 1035 (on an 18th c. work). - Eugène-Joseph de Gayffier (1806-1871), French engineer (bookplate). - Joint, in red morocco with the arms of the ep.: L'année chrêtienne contenant les masses des dimanches, feries & fêtes de toute l'année [...]. Tome VII qui comprend les messes des Octaves de la Pentecôte et du Saint Sacrement. Paris, H. Josset, 1686. Fully ruled copy. Prov. Nicolas Lambert de Thorigny (1657-1729), councillor then president of the parliament of Paris, provost of the merchants of Paris (super ex-libris; ref. Olivier 1772:1).
