Description
The dog after the monks. Read & approved by a band of defrocked men, newly landed in Holland. In-8°: 32 pp. - Rare edition of this virulent anticlerical satire in lively verse, embellished with a few erotic tableaux. The original, published anonymously, without place or date, is thought to date from around 1780 or 1782. Ours, which bears the title of the second edition (n.d.), would therefore be backdated. We find no copies with the date 1776 in bibliographies or online catalogues. - Ref. Cp. Barbier I:584, BGL I:571, STCN (same address, 1784). - Not in Pia, Dutel, Nordmann.
