L'eloge de la folie, composé en forme de declamation [...]. Avec quelques notes de Listrius, & les belles figures de Holbenius ; le tout sur l'original de l'Academie de Bâles [...]. Newly translated into French by Mr. Gueudeville. In-12: 2 front-[32]-312 pp; 6 h.-t. (rare foxing, small tears without loss to 1 plate repaired with adhesive tape with brown marks). - Rare first edition of the translation, the first under this title, by the journalist and historian Nicolas Gueudeville (1652-1721). A French edition had already appeared in 1520 under the title "De la déclamation de louenges de follie [...]". The illus. includes 1 frontispiece with medallion portraits of Erasmus, Th. More and Holbein by F. van Bleyswyck, 1 allegorical frontispiece-title, 6 folding plates, 75 in-text and 1 armorial band at the dedication, by Hans Holbein the Younger.
