Description
Set of 19 etched copperplates and 60 unpublished signed prints for "Les dieux ont soif" by Anatole France. Printing copperplates: 10 of 20 x 13.8 cm; 9 of various smaller sizes, most signed and dated; prints on Arches vellum ff., 28.5 x 19.5 cm, signed in pencil beneath the image with a pencil indication of the title "Les dieux ont soif" and the corresponding page (a few light discharges on the white versos). - Unique and unpublished set of engraved compositions probably intended for the first illustrated edition of France's work (original ed.: 1912). This was published in 1924 by Carteret with etchings by Camoreyt, followed in 1925 by an illustrated edition by Georges Janniot. Our set includes 19 (of 20) plates and 3 complete sets of 20 etchings. - Joint: France, Anatole - Les dieux ont soif. First illustrated edition. Original etchings by Jacques Camoreyt. Paris, L. Carteret, 1924. In-4°. In ff. with full illustrated cover and publisher's slipcase. 1/325 (of 450 copies) on Marais vellum (no. 317), accompanied by a suite of illustrations with remarks (3 vols.).
