Les travaux et les jours. New translation by Paul Mazon. Followed by La terre et l'homme. By Anatole France. Decorated with one hundred and fourteen original woodcuts by Paul Émile Colin. Gr. in-4° (rare small russets). - Superb illustration by P.-É. Colin including 7 h.-t. included in the pagination, many in-text, a frieze in 2 tones (olive and brown) repeated at the top and bottom of the page, running title and lettering in red. Limited edition of 375 copies plus 30 of the present one, one of 35 reprinted on old japon in gr. in-4° format (n° 7 for Mlle Lydie d'Oustinoff), containing a suite of artist's proofs on chine. Enriched with an original unsigned watercolour by Colin which served as a model for the chased decoration on leather that he produced for the binding, signed with his monogram. Paul-Émile Colin, a specialist in wood engraving, adapted the technique of xylography to work on leather, creating decorations for bindings executed by such great names as Carayon, Cretté, Kieffer and Canape. The first part of the book is published in Greek-French juxtaposition. The last work published by Pelletan, as mentioned in the edition prospectus bound in fine. The colophon bears the date 31 January 1913. - Similar incised bindings by P.-É. Colin, in: "À livres couverts: reliures du Moyen Âge à nos jours" [cat. exhibition], Nancy, Bibliothèque municipale, 2007. - Prov.
