Historical description of the Hôtel Royal des Invalides. With plans, sections, geometrical elevations of this building, & the paintings & sculptures of the church, drawn & engraved by Sieur Cochin [...]. In-fr.: [4]-xii-104 pp; 107 (of 108) h.-t. (inc. of pl. 108, pl. 61 browned, fly-staining concentrated on several pp. of text). - First edition. This work follows on from the editions of 1684 by le Jeune de Boullencourt and 1702 by Félibien des Avaux, which were essentially devoted to the history and architecture of the building. Another edition appeared in 1736, illustrated by Charles-Nicolas Cochin senior, but it contained a number of errors that our edition remedies. Illustrated with 3 bands (portrait of Louis XIV, presentation of the plans to the King, view of the Invalides), 2 initials and 107 plates of architecture, painting, sculpture and paving, often on double pages with several subjects. - Reference Berlin Kat. 2513. - Cicognara 4062. - Not in Fowler. - Prov.
