Description
48 postcards addressed to Georges Peters and 14 other postcards. Abundant private correspondence by postcard from various senders to Georges Peters (1868-1940), administrative agent in the Congo. In 1896, as head of the Isangi post, he and his colleague Arens were tasked with selecting areas for growing coffee and rubber. In 1900, he was appointed director of the Société Anonyme d'Agriculture et de Plantation. From 1900 to 1905, he travelled to Egypt to bring Egyptian cotton-growing methods back to the Congo. He then worked for Intertropical Comfina (initially Intertropical and Congo Oriental Cy) for 25 years. During the First World War, he held a number of management positions in London with Congolese companies. On his return to Belgium, he was director of the Bulletin department and a contributor to the newspaper "le Congo moniteur colonial". - Private correspondence about health, cordial messages, souvenirs, travel news, New Year's greetings, political news, etc. Most of the postcards are cancelled and dated (1902-1932), sent from Brazaville, Elisabethville, Matadi, Kinshasa, Boma, Coquilhatville, Albertville, Léopoldville, etc. Includes postcards sent to Alexandria, London, Brussels and Wenduyne. With mention of Intertropical in the address from 1911 and Interfina from 1921.
