Folio obl.: 14 collotype plates, tissue guards with plate numb., English text (18 pp.) and captions, the book does not contain a colophon or title page. - Photographs by William Kinnimond Burton (1856-1899), a Scottish engineer and photographer, professor of sanitary engineering at Tokyo Imperial University of Japan. Along with Kazumasa Ogawa, Burton was a founding member of the Japan Photographic Society. Plates by Ogawa Kazumasa (1860-1929), considered a pioneer in the development of photography and photomechanical printing in Japan. Text by James Murdoch (1856-1921), Scottish orientalist scholar and journalist who worked as a teacher in Japan and Australia.
