Description
"Order book of the hussar regiment n° 8. Commenced 1st January 1816". In-8°: [128] pp, brown ink on lined paper (slight soiling to title and last page, rare small paper tears at edges without loss of text). - A fascinating manuscript collection of the daily orders (from 1 January to 7 December 1816) of this regiment commanded by Colonel Chevalier Duvivier (Mons 1777-1853), a brilliant hussar officer, first in the service of the Grande Armée, then in the service of the King of the Netherlands. He commanded regiment no. 8 with which he fought at the Battle of Waterloo. The last 'order of the day' concerns his appointment to the rank of major general and expresses his 'sorrow' at leaving his regiment. Created a baron in 1823, he became a lieutenant-general in the service of the young Belgian state in 1830. - Ref. Biogr. nat. VII:393-395.
