Description
"Sonata a quatre mains del Signor Bach". Obl. 8vo, 24 x 29 cm: 16 pp. brown ink on laid paper (occ. foxing and soiling, mainly marginal and on first ff.). - A carefully executed copy of the 1st movement, Allegro, from the sonata for piano four-hands, op. 15, n. 6, in C, by the famous J.C. Bach (1735-1782), son of Johann Sebastian. The transcription is signed at the end: "J. B. Heyse, P[res]b[yte]r Gandavensis". - Prov. Jacobus Bernardus Heyse (1769-1822), assistant priest at various parishes within the Diocese of Ghent in the early 19th c., then chaplain at St Bavo's Cathedral from June 1806 (ms. entries at the end and on pastedown). - Thanks to Gilbert Huybens for his insights.
