Description
"Epitaph and quarters of noble and generous lord Gille de Busleijden, seig[neu]r of Noderwijck [sic] and noble lady Anne de Plaines, lady of the said place". 64 x 32 cm, brown ink on parchment, in French, large drawing in brown ink heightened in blue, 26 x 17 cm, autograph signatures, attestation signed "Ph. Van Omel" in the name of the college of burgomasters and aldermen with secret seal of the town under paper, title in ink on verso (minor soiling on margins and verso). - Fine original document reproducing the epitaph decorated with coats of arms from the tomb of Gilles de Busleyden and Anne de Plaine, which stood in the church of the Carmelite fathers' convent in Brussels, razed in 1797. J.-B. Houwaert (4th of the name, descendant of the famous poet), alderman and secretary of the city of Brussels, and A. Britzelius, officer-at-arms, hereby certify the arms and quarters of nobility represented, restoring, on the basis of the coats of arms, the names of the quarters which "have been so erased by the passage of time": Busleyden, Merode, Plaine, Gondevael, van Vucht, Gottignies, etc.
