Together with Pierre Bayle (1647-1706), Moreri set the standard for the large, 18th-c. encyclopaedias. Only the 1st ed. (1674) was published during the author's life and the last ed. (20th!) was published in 1759. Ill. with a front. and engr. headpiece in the first vol. Supplement, based on the Paris ed. of 1732, with corrections to this work. - Ref. Brunet III:1901. - Prov.
