Souvenir de la catastrophe du 1er septembre 1923. 8vo. - Rare offprint of an article from the periodical "La Chine" (n. 51), eyewitness account by Louis Hauman, living in Tokyo, of the 1923 Great Kantō earthquake that devasted Tokyo, the port city of Yokohama and surrounding prefectures of Kanagawa, Chiba, and Shizuoka, and caused widespread damage throughout the Kantō region. Illustrated with 5 woodcuts in-text (one full-page) and 7 photo reproductions (one full-page) pasted-in. Limited edition of 50 copies (n. 2). Numerous ms. notes in the margins, corrections from the author (?) on a 8vo leaf, and a draft for a speech on a 8vo bifolio as introduction for a conference held by Hauman on the earthquake.
