Description
Manufacture de Saint-Clément (Lorraine). Wall plaque in polychrome enamelled earthenware, with heraldic decoration of a coat of arms, under a count's crown, bearing the arms of the Huyn de Vernéville family (quarterly Or with three fesses wavy Azure, and Sable with six billets 3 and 3, on a chief Or). Stamp in blue "St Clément Terre [de Lorraine]". Circa 1860. Total height 33.5 cm. An accident to the tip of the right-hand palm.
He may have been Henri Huyn de Vernéville (1823-1909), born in Metz, who had a military career and ended as squadron leader in the Dragoons. He married Marie d'Ollone in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in 1856. The family was well established in Lorraine at the end of the 19th century, as shown by the alliances with the Lalande de Calan, Scitivaux de Greische and Warren families, etc.
Provenance: private collection, Lorraine.
