ROMANTIC PRINTS
Set of fifteen Romantic period prints, circa 1860, printed on vellum and published for the most part by Goupil, including six in old colours (watercolour and/or gouache with gum arabic highlights in some cases). Engravings and lithographs by the artists Emile Lassalle, Lemoine, Ducollet, A. Devéria, Soulange-Teissier, Jules Didier, Le Jeune, Thirion, Levasseur, Annedouche and Varin.
Sheet sizes (including margins): 50 x 39 cm to 72 x 49 cm.
The set is in very good condition. There are only a few slight traces of use in the margins and some foxing on two or three plates.
Goupil & Cie, founded in Paris in 1829, was one of the most important publishers and art dealers of the 19th century, specialising in the distribution of prints and reproductions of works of art. At the end of the century, its activities were continued by Manzi-Joyant & Cie, renowned for its luxury illustrated editions and innovations in photogravure.
