SHOOTING PRIZE MEDAL - "38e REGIMENT TERRITORIAL D'INFANTERIE 1897" ( * ). "French Republic" head of the Republic, head laureate, profile to the right, by Daniel Dupuis - reverse title in the centre with space for attribution. Around the rim, a composition by Degeorge showing rifles and pistols arranged in clusters and a bow on a baroque shield. Bronze and horn hallmarks on the edge - in its original shaped case. 45 mm - 43,63 grammes - SUP ( * ) A VERY SHORT EXISTENCE, the Régiments D'Infanterie Territoriale or R.I.T were military units made up of men aged between 34 and 49 considered too old to join an active regiment. Created after the defeat at Sedan in 1875, they were mobilised in August 1914 and put in charge of guard duty. They played an important role during the Great War, particularly at the front. - Disbanded on 1 August 1918.
