Description
Henriette de Belgique duchesse de Vendôme (1870-1948), Zuckerhütl seen from Wilder Pfaff (Tyrol), hst, monogrammed HBV (for Henriette de Belgique-Vendôme), 24 x 35 cm. Titled and signed on the back (very small hole).
Henriette of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1870-1948), Princess of Belgium and sister of King Albert I of the Belgians, married Prince Emmanuel d'Orléans (1872-1931), Duke of Vendôme, great-grandson of King Louis-Philippe, in 1896. The couple had four children, Marie-Louise, Sophie, Geneviève and Charles-Philippe duc de Nemours. The Duchesse de Vendôme was godmother to Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Towards the end of her life, the Duchesse de Vendôme devoted much of her time to painting in her studio at the Château de Tourronde, on the shores of Lake Geneva near Evian, where the princess lived during the 1939-1945 war.
The Zuckerhütl is a peak in the Alps, at 3,507 m, the highest point in the Stubai massif in Austria (Tyrol).
