Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904). Seated cat forming a tobacco pot in yellow glazed earthenware decorated in cobalt blue with small round hearts and a decorative Japanese swan at the back of the head; the eyes in glass sulphides. Probably after a model by Gengoult PROUVÉ (father of Victor PROUVÉ) and decorated by Émile GALLÉ. Circa 1884. Signature under the Gallé Nancy base in blue ink on the terracotta. D. 32 × 19 cm. (The enamel is missing, chipped and several restorations have been made) Bibliography: Bernd HAKENJOS, Émile Gallé, Éditions Hirmer, 2012: a decoration to the model reproduced p. 39 n°65 (for a dog).
