Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904).
Tanniferous earthenware covered trembling cup and saucer with polychrome enamelled decoration of dragonflies and water lily leaves on the edge of a pond, the handle and frétel in the round in the shape of a branch and probably a quetsche or plum.
The saucer completes the decoration of insects and flowering branches by a pond, like a mosquito.
A characteristic piece of Emile Gallé's Japonism.
Handwritten signature painted on the reverse in Gallé blue Nancy, circa 1878-1879.
H. cup: 13 cm.
Diam. saucer: 16 cm.
(Minor chips to the cup)
