Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904).
Tanniferous earthenware pie dish with blue monochrome enamelled decoration bearing the motto on a phylactery: "Patriotism of well-being".
The flags under the flames, the cross serving as a rack for the cauldron and the cat lounging in front of the hearth all point to a non-conformist vision created a few years after the annexation of Alsace and Moselle in 1871...
Handwritten signature painted and enamelled on the reverse, circa 1877.
Diameter: 34.5 cm.
(A small chip on the reverse)
