Description
a. * Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904). Set of a dish on a pedestal and three plates in tin-glazed earthenware with painted polychrome enamelled decoration of wild flowers for the dish and 2 plates from the floral service, and 1 plate decorated with crossed feathers and a fantastic bird in the centre. Together, these 4 pieces are typical of the Japonism so much appreciated by Émile Gallé, with a bluish background dotted with clouds in gold applied with a sponge. Enamelled painted signature on reverse, circa 1881. Diameters: 24 cm and 25.5 cm. (Wear to the gilding) The floral service was created in 1881 (P. Thiébault, catalogue of the Gallé exhibition, Paris, Musée du Luxembourg, 1985-86) and produced in Raon-l'Etape in Adolphe Muller's earthenware factory. The drawings were by Louis Hestaux, head of Gallé's drawing workshop in Nancy. Plates in the model (floral service) are part of the Musée d'Orsay collections Inventory number: OAO 1336 1.
