Tanniferous earthenware inkwell with polychrome enamelled floral decoration with gold highlights, inscribed "Plus penser que dire" ("More thinking than saying").
Handwritten painted signature and enamelled stamp on reverse, circa 1890.
D. inkwell: 21.5 × 14 cm.
(Chips, wear to the gilding and minor restorations to the enamel).
The motto refers to the city of Bar-le-Duc: "More thinking than saying" and could be the motto that everyone should follow.
