Set of two stanniferous earthenware bowls with polychrome enamelled decoration and gold highlights of pansy flowers and the words inscribed in phylacteries: "Plus penser que Dire" ("More to think than to say").
Handwritten painted signature and enamelled stamp on reverse, circa 1890.
D. 19 × 17 cm and 17 × 15 cm.
(Chips, wear to the gilding)
The motto and thoughts refer to the coat of arms of the city of Bar-le-Duc: "More Thinking than Saying" and could be the motto that everyone should follow.
