Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904).
Set of two tin-glazed earthenware plates with painted polychrome enamel decoration of a Baroque opera duet: a Prima Donna singing with her score and a theorbist accompanying her on basso continuo.
Painted signature enamelled on the reverse in manganese, circa 1885, with below the probable signature of his collaborator Eugène Kremer who worked in Meisenthal but also in Raon-l'Etape and who certainly made this decoration in collaboration with Emile Gallé.
Diameter: 26 cm.
(Crack and chip)
Bibliography: La Société des Amis de la Bibliothèque et du musée de Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, La Faïencerie de Raon-l'Etape, Éditions privées, 2010: a plate with the same model (different character) with a photo of the signature on the reverse is reproduced on p. 78: "it is rare for a piece by E. Gallé to bear two signatures, his own and that of a collaborator: Eugène Kremer".
