Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904).
Decorative plate in tin-glazed earthenware with stylized enamelled painted decoration in monochrome blue of two crosses of Lorraine and a thistle flower surrounding an emblematic gate of Jean Lamour of the place Stanislas (1751-1755) with its worked amounts set its lantern out of wrought iron and gilded; the arc of entry framing the statue of the good king and thus putting in perspective the place Stanislas in Nancy.
Handwritten signature painted on the reverse.
Diameter: 26 cm.
(An enamel chip at the edge)
René II d'Anjou, Duke of Lorraine adopted the thistle emblem for Lorraine and added the motto: "Ne toquès mi, je poins" which became "Qu'y s'y frotte s'y pique".
