* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904).
A tin-glazed earthenware covered trembling cup and saucer with a blue cameo enamelled decoration of Lorraine crosses and thistles.
Handwritten signature painted on the reverse, circa 1885.
H. cup: 13 cm.
Diam. saucer: 15 cm.
(Small chip to the lid, minor chips)
René II d'Anjou, Duke of Lorraine, adopted the thistle emblem for Lorraine and added the motto: "Ne toquès mi, je poins" which became "Qu'y s'y frotte s'y pique".
