Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904)
A very rare trompe l'oeil bowl in the shape of a pleated water lily leaf. The reverse is decorated in the round with a water snail, bivalves, a water mussel and a water lily bud.
Enamelled signature stamp on reverse, circa 1888.
D. 7.5 × 37 cm.
An incredible naturalist collector's piece by the master of the Ecole de Nancy, foreshadowing his work on aquatic fauna and probably presented at the Paris World's Fair in 1889.
