Set of two small ball vases with hemmed necks in enamelled ceramic with stylised polychrome and gilded decoration of fish in the Japanese and Chinese style.
Enamelled handwritten signature in the decoration and on the reverse of Jean Schmitt, Épinal, circa 1910.
H. 5.5 cm.
Jean Schmitt takes us back in time to Épinal with some very charming designs evoking the ornate lacquers of Japan on a background of water lilies in relief, and an iridescent blue design evoking living water for the second.
