Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904). Reine-marguerite forming a bouquet-holder in tin-glazed earthenware with a polychrome and gilded enamelled speaking decoration with the famous motto: "Un peu, Beaucoup, Pas d"; stem forming a handle. Enamelled stamp signature on reverse, circa 1880. D. 18 × 18 cm. (Slightly worn enamel) Gallé transformed a bouquet holder into a sentimental object combining allegory of love and a naturalist scene. In Gallé's drawings, page 61, it is indicated that the artist corrects himself by removing the beetle, which is much too heavy for the flower. Similarly, he removed "u tout" for "pas du tout" in order to lighten the composition.
