Description
* Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904).
An earthenware pilgrim's gourd vase with handles and a small neck with a painted polychrome enamelled decoration in light relief and Japanese motifs on a blue background combining long aquatic grasses and stylised plants. One side features an oriental dragon in light relief enamelled and gilded, moving alongside a stylised Japanese fan in front of a disc evoking the moon, a composition directly inspired by the Far Eastern aesthetic that nourished Émile Gallé's research in the 1880s and 1890s.
Underglaze signature on reverse: "Émile Gallé - Faïencerie de Nancy".
