Suite of 9 cream pots and their tray in tin-glazed earthenware with blue cameo enamelled decoration of Lorraine crosses and thistles.
Handwritten signature painted on the reverse, circa 1885.
H. cream pot: 7.5 cm.
Tray: 24.5 x 24.5 cm.
(Chips, cracks on one cream pot)
René II d'Anjou, Duke of Lorraine, adopted the thistle emblem for Lorraine and added the motto: "Ne toquès mi, je poins" which became "Qu'y s'y frotte s'y pique".
