Collection & Studio fonds of an international portrait painter active since 1920: Olga Dormandi - née Székely Kovacs (1900-1971). Originally from Hungary, and trained in a rich cultural environment, she was part of the continuity of the great modern movements, through figuration and the art of the portrait, alongside international artists who contributed to renewing the pictorial language of the twentieth century. From the 1930s onwards, she asserted her artistic approach. An important stage in her career came in 1949, when she was exhibited at the famous Galerie Bernheim-Jeune, a major venue on the Paris art scene. This confirmed her place in an active and recognised artistic milieu. His career was also marked by links with the artists of his time, notably Róbert Berény, an important figure in Hungarian modernism. His work is characterised by a particular attention to colour, with a highly recognisable palette, a lightness of touch and a focus on the deconstruction of movement. She then embarked on a career as a portrait painter in the United States. Close to psychoanalytical circles, her portraits bear witness to a search for depth. The ensemble presented in this sale - studio and collection - allows us to follow the development of her work, from the earliest research to the most assertive works. It highlights the coherence of his approach and the diversity of his output: paintings, studies and finished works. For collectors, it's an opportunity to acquire works directly from the artist's studio, with a real insight into his career. This collection offers a solid point of entry into a body of work that is still accessible, but which is underpinned by a strong artistic identity. A number of works from the artist's own collection will also be included.
