Terms of sale
We are delighted to present, on Monday 26 October, a superb book sale featuring both antique and modern works, beautiful illustrated books from Brittany, volumes in fine morocco bindings crafted by master bookbinders, the first edition of *Les Fleurs du mal*, as well as typescripts by Boghos Nubar Pasha (1851–1930) (an Egyptian politician). Also on display will be a significant collection of 18th-century maps of Brittany, including numerous maps of Belle-Île. These items come from two libraries and various other sources, including that of Mr Joseph Le Rouzic, a bookbinder and later a proofreader, who was passionate about ‘fine books’. For 40 years, he scoured the bookshops and second-hand bookshops of the department in search of rare books, mainly on Brittany: its authors; its illustrators; its bookbinders; its history and its customs. A compulsive and meticulous collector, over the years he amassed more than 500 rare books, of which over 200 will be offered for sale on 26 October 2026 at Bretagne Enchères. Highlights of this sale include: AUTHORS: Apollinaire – Baudelaire – Chateaubriand – Colette – Diderot – Flaubert – Anatole France – Genevoix – Heredia – Huysmans – Max Jacob – Le Braz – Loti – Richepin – Rimbaud – Rousseau – Sand – Savignon – Vercel – Verlaine, etc… ILLUSTRATORS: Brouet – Cassiers – Henry Cheffer – Charles Cottet – Creston – André Dauchez – Fouqueray – Frélaut – Leloir – Méheut – Pierre Péron – Lucien Simon – Steinlen, etc… BOOKBINDERS: Bonet – Canape – Chambolle Duru – Champs – Cretté – Huser – Kieffer – Charles Meunier – Semet Plumelle – Stroobants, etc… Public viewings: - Friday 23 October: 2.00 pm–5.00 pm - Saturday 24 October: 10.00 am–1.00 pm - Monday 26 October: 10.00 am–12.00 pm Expert: Sylvain LANGLOIS - [email protected] Head of Department: Aliénor de BLIGNIERES – [email protected]
