Terms of sale
Auction of works from the studio of Sandra JAYAT (1930/1939–2025). In person at 2 Rue du Docteur Leray, Enghien-Les-Bains, and on Interencheres.com from 2.00 pm to 3.30 pm. Born between 1930 and 1939, Sandra Jayat was a painter, writer and champion of Romani culture. She became involved in the circles of the École de Paris from the 1960s onwards, where she rubbed shoulders with Jean Cocteau, Marc Chagall, Jean Marais and Dang Lebadang, to whom she was very close. Whilst her work as an artist is an important part of her life, her primary aim is to promote Romani culture, which she has sought to highlight in universities. In this regard, she has even ambiguously cultivated her alleged connection to Django Reinhardt. Her personal archives contain numerous correspondences with a wide range of artistic figures, extending to government bodies such as the Ministry of Culture (Jack Lang and his successors) and the Presidency of the Republic (Mitterrand, Chirac). From 1930s Parisian abstraction to Chagall, Sandra Jayat draws on a range of influences, with her poetry blending with Cubism and Symbolism. A significant collection of signed canvases from the 1980s to the 2000s. Signed watercolour drawings. Signed and numbered lithographs and posters from her exhibitions. A collection of autographs and books signed by Paul Éluard, Jean Lurçat and Maurice Druon, as well as letters from Mitterrand and Jack Lang, taken from his personal archives. Viewing from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm.
