Saturday 7 November, 2nd ACT Auction: from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm – LIVE and ON-SITE auction at the Unterlinden Museum La Piscine Room Place Unterlinden, 68000 Colmar Preview of lots from 1.30 pm to 2.00 pm in the room The concept behind this auction: 40 exclusive lots, each comprising a wine from one of our local winegrowers (large bottles, old vintages) and a wine from one of their fellow winegrowers, from all regions of France or elsewhere. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Société Schongauer, the association that has managed and administered the Unterlinden Museum since its opening in 1853, and which regards patronage as a key factor in the museum’s development. Housed in a former Dominican convent founded in 1252, the Unterlinden Museum boasts a remarkable collection of sculptures and paintings from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its Gothic cloister, built between 1280 and 1289, is considered one of the most complete in Alsace. Building on this rich heritage and cultural identity, the museum houses one of the masterpieces of Western art: the Issenheim Altarpiece, an impressive polyptych combining sculptures by Nicolas de Haguenau with paintings by Matthias Grünewald, created between 1512 and 1516. This exceptional ensemble is a major work in the history of world art. In 2015, the Unterlinden Museum underwent a major transformation with the opening of a contemporary extension designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron. Conceived as a subtle dialogue between heritage and architectural innovation, this extension is structured around three elements: the former convent, the former municipal baths and a new building situated on the opposite side of Unterlinden Square. Linked by an underground gallery, these spaces provide the museum with new exhibition and circulation areas. This new building, the Ackerhof, houses the Unterlinden Museum’s collections of modern and contemporary art. It forms part of an overarching architectural project that revitalises the museum experience and creates a dialogue between historical heritage and artistic creation from the 20th and 21st centuries.
