Seghers was a successful painter, prized among such influential collectors as 'Federico Enrique de Orange-Nassau, Cristina de Suecia or Carlos I de Inglaterra', according to the Museo del Prado. Notes in the database of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (RABASF) explain that 'he is considered the great master of flower paintings [...] linked to Spanish patrons, such as Cardinal Infante, Fernando de Austria, son of Felipe III”. He painted flowers in paintings by Rubens, and is related to Jan Brueghel, although he pays more attention, according to El Prado, 'to transparencies and the combination of light and shadow'.
