Estimate €5,000 - €8,000
Description
Flemish School. Early 17th century. Circle of Jan Brueghel the Elder and Jan Brueghel the Younger (Antwerp, circa 1617 to 1625) 'The Birth of Eve' Oil on panel. 46 x 55 cm. The iconography of the Birth of Eve normally includes the figure of God the Father presiding over the scene. It is highly distinctive and exceptionally rare that, in our panel, this representation is replaced by a halo of light illuminating Eve, a subtle yet powerful symbol of God the Father.
